Essential Oils are another amazing toolset that can aid in your quest for wellness. I have avoided writing about them for too long, but it wasn’t because I didn’t like them. It was actually because I was uncomfortable with the popular business models, which were (are) too aggressive for my liking.
I don’t like anything with a ‘business model’ to be honest, as I believe in empowering people to achieve and maintain their own wellness – regardless of their financial status. (And that is why I love Dr. Weston A. Price, Dr. Robert Beck, Colloidal Silver, etc.).
In any case, essential oils are an amazing tool kit, so I do not want to let business models stand in the way. There are some great products with great people behind them. And my favorite place for learning about them for many years now has been DaNelle Wolford’s wonderful blog, Weed’em & Reep. DaNelle definitely has her own fun and energetic style of writing, and she has some of my favorite posts on grains too.
When thinking about essential oils it is very important to get a proven, high quality brand, as there are many cheap useless products on the market. I have chosen DoTerra, but there are other good brands of course.
While essential oils may seem like the hot new trend, they are not new at all. A lot of ancient shamanistic practices have been taking advantage of essential oils for ages. There are people in the dark places of the world chewing on bark, root, leaf, seed, stem, etc. from various plants that we do not even have names for. Some of these would be akin to essential oils, some similar to Bach remedies, some more in line with hallucinogens, or other ‘labels’ that we use in modern society. And some are even extracted with the same practices that we use today for essential oils.
“An essential oil is a concentrated hydrophobic liquid containing volatile aroma compounds from plants. Essential oils are also known as volatile oils, ethereal oils, aetherolea, or simply as the “oil of” the plant from which they were extracted, such as oil of clove. An oil is “essential” in the sense that it contains the “essence of” the plant’s fragrance—the characteristic fragrance of the plant from which it is derived.” – Wikipedia
Wikipedia is often a tricky reference to use, and usually manipulated by large corporations to support their own agendas, but the paragraph above is still a good definition, and they have other useful information there currently.
Ask around. Do some research. An essential oil might be the solution you need for what ails you.
